Finding online news articles appropriate for elementary and middle school kids is difficult. Teachingkidsnews.com was created just for this purpose. The website posts “Timely, relevant news articles for kids...” Each article includes curriculum ties that help teachers connect learning with real life issues. The target audience is Grades 2-8.

Getting started is easy. Simply go to teachingkidsnews.com.


Click on an article from the start page, or choose a category then select desired article.


Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the classroom curriculum connections.


Most of the articles are just the right length for the elementary and middle school student and are stories that would interest them. Use them with  the whole class, guided reading groups, or independent reading assignments. Just like any resource, be sure to preview for content to ensure they are appropriate for the students in your class.
