Chirbit is a tool similar to Vocaroo in that is creates audio files in minutes. However, this one has a few unique features that would be great for the classroom.
You do have to create an account and verify your email before you can begin making Chirbits but it is Free and has a mobile version.
So how does it work? You use 4 methods to create your Chirbit!
To record you would need a microphone but otherwise it is very straight forward. Chirbit can record up to 5 minutes of any audio - singing, talking, etc. This would be great for student reflection, audio for website, self-checks for music/band class, the possibilities for endless.
Upload an audio file allows you to bring in an already created audio file. Here are the file types that Chirbit can work with, notice that some are movie extensions.
Video to Chirbit is a really neat feature where you can insert the link to a YouTube video and it will extract the audio only. This could be very helpful for read alongs or allowing your students to listen to a story being read aloud.
Text to Chirbit allows you to type in a text and it will turn it into audio for you. So you already have the directions typed up for an activity you could just paste them into the box and in just a few seconds your text is audio.
Once you have your chirbit you can share it, edit the image for it, edit the original file or you can translate, transcribe the audio for use in other places, you can even have students respond or comment on it.
These files are great for young students or struggling readers, the translate and transcription could be very useful for English language learners. The possibilities are endless!
